This has serious implications for both quality of life and economic potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>What the Survey Shows<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/silverspringhearing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/women-conversation-tinnitus.jpg\" alt=\"Two women having a conversation at work.\" class=\"wp-image-792\" width=\"276\" height=\"183\" srcset=\"https:\/\/silverspringhearing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/women-conversation-tinnitus.jpg 1050w, https:\/\/silverspringhearing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/women-conversation-tinnitus-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 276px) 100vw, 276px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked \u201cHow tinnitus has affected your job or work prospects,\u201d respondents reported the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>6.38% reported their tinnitus had driven them to succeed more<\/li><li>9.6% reported their tinnitus caused them to struggle with work and give it up<\/li><li>10.99% reported they were struggling and thinking about giving up work because of their tinnitus<\/li><li>17.7% reported they had not been able to pursue career progression due to their tinnitus<\/li><li>55.3% reported they did not feel a difference<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/silverspringhearing.com\/tinnitus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tinnitus<\/a> Causes Trouble Concentrating<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the major impacts of tinnitus is trouble concentrating. According to the survey, 41% of sufferers\u2019 concentration levels are mildly affected, 33% are moderately affected, and 20% are severely affected. Only a small minority reported no concentration problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is worth noting that trouble concentrating caused by tinnitus is different from the concentration fatigue that people with hearing loss experience. Concentration fatigue is when the brain has to put extra effort to hear and process auditory information, whereas tinnitus-related concentration issues are caused by the constant noise in one\u2019s head that needs to be pushed to the background in order to focus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, severe tinnitus can affect anxiety and\/or sleep problems, which further exacerbates concentration issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Some Work Environments Are Especially Challenging<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Certain industries expose workers to unsafe noise levels, such as military service, construction, manufacturing and the music industry. But even if noise levels are moderate, it can still lead to hearing damage and tinnitus. Sounds at 85 dB \u2013 about the volume of highway traffic or a busy caf\u00e9 \u2013 can be damaging after eight hours or more of exposure.
